Wicker Park, Bucktown's Birchwood Kitchen
In the midst of hip and new we love to showcase those Wicker Park & Bucktown establishments that may not be featured in every trendy news publication but they're good. Birchwood Kitchen is one of those great neighborhood eateries.
Located just a tad off the beaten path at 2211 W. North Avenue, you could walk right past Birchwood Kitchen. But you'll want to step inside. A staple in the neighborhood for 3 1/2 years, Birchwood Kitchen welcomes you with some of the nicest service (and most delicious chocolate chip cookies) around. The ambiance is always warm and cozy.
Birchwood Kitchen also offers a seasonal menu That means the food is fresh and they've just announced their Fall menu.
When I last visited Birchwood Kitchen on a rainy Friday afternoon at 2:30pm, they were busy; a testament to just how good they are. As a sampling of what they have to offer, I opted for the goat cheese/beet sandwich: fresh goat cheese, pickled beets, walnut pesto, arugula,
baguette and a small side salad. Healthy and delicious.
There's also an outdoor patio in the back. Specializing in lunch and brunch, they've recently introduced their Fall menu. They've also introduced burgers in the evening. Some of Birchwood's Burger options include:
BACON CHEDDAR
tomato, garlic aioli
SOUTHWEST TURKEY
chipotle aioli, pickled onion, tomato, greens
FRESH SALMON
lemon dill goat cheese, red onion, greens
VEGETARIAN
herbed white bean burger, mushroom conserva, tomato aioli, spinach
They also have plenty of sandwich choices as well. These are a few examples of what you'll find on the hot sandwich menu...perfect for Fall:
MEATLOAF
garlic-herb meatloaf, tomato fennel compote,
gruyere cheese, sour dough bread
PORK
yucatan braised pork shoulder,
lime pickled onions, shaved cabbage,
habanero aioli, baguette
GRUYèRE
cave-aged gruyère, caramelized onion,
dijon mustard, sour dough bread
CHEDDAR
aged white cheddar, multi grain bread
TUNA
spanish tuna salad, gruyère, roasted tomato, multi
grain bread
MUSHROOM
mushroom fricassee, brie, red wine-shallot mustard,
sour dough bread
Birchwood Kitchen is a must-try in the neighborhood with soups, salads, sandwiches, burgers and brunch available and the prices won't break the bank. The staff is always friendly and the food is always good. For the full menu: Birchwood Kitchen.
