Russian Bath to Reopen in Wicker Park

Updated: December 12, 2012 - According to an article just published by Eater Chicago, it looks like plans have changed a little for the Russian Bath House located at 1914 - 1916 W. Division. Instead of featuring apartments the new space will include a bed and breakfast. But that's not all Red Square Cafe Lounge will also feature a 3,500 square foot restaurant and bar. The food will feature Russian small plates with an American twist. You'll find saunas, steam rooms, and baths here as well. There's also a full-service salon and a bed and breakfast overlooking Division. Red Square Cafe Lounge will offer an interesting combination of food/drink and services right on Division Street. Look for a soft opening later this month.

March 21, 2012 - Last Fall the Sun-Times reported the Russian Bath House located at 1914 - 1916 N. Division Street had been sold. Although the bathhouse was a working-class relaxation spa in days gone by it has remained closed - and empty after going into foreclosure.

Alex Loyfman of AM Realty Management Inc. in Skokie has purchased the building and Loyfman told the Insider's Guide he is working to have a new spa up and running mid-end of Summer. The plans - according to Alderman Moreno - are to include a spa and restaurant.

There are also 5 two-bedroom apartments above the commercial space that Loyfman will renovate.
